Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and fifteen others have been convicted in relation to the Fodder Scam in the state..A Special CBI Court in Ranchi pronounced its verdict in the case, which involved the embezzlement of Rs. 89 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994..The judgment, pronounced by CBI judge Shivpal Singh, also acquitted another former Chief Minister of Bihar, Jagannath Mishra, and six others..The court will pass its sentencing order for those convicted on January 3. In the mean time, Yadav and the others have been taken into custody..Yadav was earlier convicted in another case related to the Fodder Scam back in 2013, and was disqualified from Parliament and from contesting elections. Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani had successfully obtained bail for Yadav in the Supreme Court that year..In May this year, the Supreme Court set aside a Jharkhand High Court judgment holding that Yadav could not be tried separately for various offences relating to the Fodder scam.
