Kerala appoints Ramesh Babu as senior standing counsel for Supreme Court; four appointed standing counsel

They four lawyers appointed as standing counsel are advocates Sulfikar Ali, Aljo Joseph, Marsook Thangal and James P Thomas.

The State of Kerala has created the post of Senior Standing Counsel in the Supreme Court for the first time, appointing advocate Ramesh Babu to the role.

The decision comes after the Congress party came to power in State following the 2026 assembly elections.

The State Cabinet also decided to appoint four standing counsel to represent Kerala before the Supreme Court. They are advocates Sulfikar Ali, Aljo Joseph, Marsook Thangal and James P Thomas.

The appointments come after the new government named Senior Advocate K Jaju Babu as Advocate General of Kerala and T Asaf Ali as Director General of Prosecution and State Public Prosecutor.
