

Sadanand S Date has taken charge as Executive Director at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and will oversee the regulator’s Investigations Department, the market watchdog said in a press release on Friday.
Date assumed office in Mumbai on March 4.
An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer belonging to the 2007 batch from the Uttarakhand cadre, Date is joining SEBI after serving on central deputation with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
During his tenure with the CBI in Mumbai, he held several roles including Superintendent of Police in the Anti-Corruption Branch and Bank Securities & Fraud Cell, and also served as Head of Branch for the Economic Offences Branch, Special Crime Branch, Special Task Branch and Anti-Corruption Branch.
Before his stint with the CBI, Date held multiple leadership positions in the Uttarakhand Police, serving as Superintendent of Police or Senior Superintendent of Police in districts such as Uttarkashi, Nainital, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun. He also briefly served as Inspector General (Headquarters) and Director Traffic in the state police.
Date has an extensive academic background. He holds an MBBS degree from Grant Medical College and JJ Group of Hospitals in Mumbai, a Master’s degree in Police Management from Osmania University, and additional degrees including MA (Economics), LLB and LLM from the University of Mumbai.
He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
At SEBI, Date will be responsible for overseeing investigations into potential violations of securities laws and market misconduct.
