SEBI appoints KVR Murty as Whole Time Member

Former Defence Accounts officer with three decades of experience in finance, corporate law and policy joins SEBI’s top leadership as Whole Time Member

KVR Murty, former Additional Controller General of Defence Accounts, has assumed charge as Whole Time Member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on April 15, 2026.

Murty brings over three decades of experience in public finance, corporate law, and governance to the market regulator.

He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics. Over the course of his career, he has held several key positions, including Principal Integrated Financial Adviser to the Indian Air Force, Financial Adviser to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

At the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Murty was involved in policy-making, e-governance initiatives and administration of corporate laws. He was associated with Ease of Doing Business reforms, including efforts to decriminalise corporate law violations. These initiatives later informed the framework of the Union government’s Jan Vishwas Bill.

Murty has also undertaken adjudicatory functions in matters relating to schemes of arrangement, mergers and amalgamations involving government companies.

He has previously served as a Part-Time Member (Government Nominee) on SEBI’s Board. In addition, he has been associated with several regulatory and professional bodies, including the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), and the councils of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and the Institute of Cost & Management Accountants of India (ICMAI).

In 2024, he was awarded the Raksha Mantri Award for Excellence for contributions towards improving operational readiness of the Indian Air Force.
