The Telangana Advocates Protection Act, 2026 has come into force from today, June 2, 2026.

The Telangana government issued a notification to this effect on Monday, bringing into force the provisions of the Act that aim to protect advocates from violence, threats, harassment and false implication in cases.

The notification was issued by the Law Department dated June 2, 2026.

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 1 of the Telangana Advocates Protection Act, 2026, Government hereby appoint the 2nd day of June, 2026, as the date on which the provisions of the said Act, shall come into force,” the notification stated.

The Act was passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly earlier this year.

It seeks to address increasing instances of violence and intimidation against advocates by providing for police protection, safeguards against false cases and a dedicated grievance redressal mechanism.

The legislation was framed following a resolution by the Bar Council of Telangana and after inputs from High Court bar associations, legal forums and members of the legal community.

Telangana Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Industry and Commerce and Legislative Affairs, Duddilla Sridhar Babu had earlier said that the law was aimed at ensuring professional safety and security of advocates.

He had also said that the legislation would strengthen the confidence of lawyers in discharging their professional duties.

The Act is expected to provide a statutory mechanism for advocates to raise grievances relating to threats, violence, harassment or obstruction in the discharge of their professional functions.

Bar bodies across the country have long demanded similar legislation in view of attacks on lawyers in courts and outside.
