Lawyer arrested by NOIDA police for allegedly assaulting, wrongfully confining domestic worker

The Noida Police on Wednesday arrested advocate Shefali Koul for allegedly assaulting, insulting and wrongfully confining a domestic worker..The FIR was registered based on a complaint by the worker's father after CCTV footage showing the lawyer dragging the worker, Anita, out of the elevator surfaced on the internet a few days ago.Koul was arrested and a case was registered against her under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) , 344 (wrongful confinement) and 504 (provoking or insulting someone) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Saad Miya Khan, through Noida Police Commissionerate's twitter handle, confirmed on Tuesday that an FIR has been registered against Koul and investigation was ongoing.In response to the tweet, a twitter handle, seemingly Koul's, shared two videos, allegedly of Anita, claiming that she has CCTV footage and independent witnesses to prove that Anita committed theft and mixed sleeping pills in her meal."I have all CCTV footage and independent witness that she has committed theft and mixed sleeping pills in my meal," the tweet said.In one, the woman can be heard stating that she was not being held captive. In the other, she is seen saying that a relative of hers had behaved inappropriately with Koul pursuant to which she and her family had apologised to Koul at a police station..According to the complaint, Anita had been working at Koul's house on a six-month contract that ended in the month of October. Koul allegedly refused to let Anita leave after her contract expired and confined her to her apartment. It was also alleged that Koul hurled casteist slurs at Anita and even took away her phone to keep her from reaching out to her family. .In August this year, another lawyer from NOIDA was arrested after she hurled abuses at security guards working at her residential society.
