Litigant in Kerala attacks parents of lawyers who represented his wife

Parents of two lawyer-siblings in Kerala were attacked by a litigant on Thursday night as retaliation for appearing against him in a case filed by his wife.

According to a first information report lodged by the police, two men attacked the parents.

The FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by the advocates' 79-year-old mother from the hospital where she was being treated after the attack.

Her 80-year-old husband, the advocates' father, was stabbed repeatedly and he remains in critical condition.

According to the FIR, the advocates represented the wife of one of the attackers who sought police protection from him due to domestic dispute.

At around 5:30 pm on August 13, two men, including the irate litigant, forcefully entered the house of the advocate's parents and asked them where their son was. According to the FIR, the men were armed with knives and threatened to kill the advocates and their parents.

When the advocates' mother asked them to leave, the attackers dragged the father out of the house, threw him on the ground, attempted to slit his throat and repeatedly stabbed him in the torso.

Based on the mother's statement, Ernakulam Rural Police (Njarakkal) registered an FIR early this morning booking the two accused men under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons), 351(3) (aggravated criminal intimidation, 333 (house trespass after preparation for assault) and 3(5) (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Kerala High Court Advoactes' Association (KHCAA) has called an urgent General Body meeting to discuss the incident.

The meeting will be held at 1:05 pm in the Association Hall today.
