A Bengaluru court on August 1 remanded two men arrested for allegedly sending rape and death threats to former Member of Parliament (MP) and actress Divya Spandana, also known as Ramya on social media, to judicial custody for 15 days.

45th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ganapathi Bhat passed the order remanding the accused, Gangadhar and T Obanna to judicial custody.

According to the Crime Central Branch (CCB) police, Obanna had sent threatening messages to Ramya from Instagram accounts named 'Robert Raghava 5D Boss TJ', while Gangadhar used accounts named 'Darshan Thoogudeep' to send similar threats.

The threats came after Ramya posted on her social media about the Supreme Court’s observations in a case related to actor Darshan, who is accused in the Renukaswamy murder case in Chitradurga. After her post, she started receiving abusive comments and threats from 43 anonymous accounts.

Following her complaint, the Bengaluru cyber police registered a case under Sections 351(2) (offence with intent to criminal intimidation), 351(3) (criminal intimidation with intent to cause death, grievous hurt), 352 (attempt to provoke breach of the peace by intentional insult), 75(1)(iv) (sexual criticism), and 79 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS) and Sections 67, 66(c) of the Information Technology Act.
