69 new law officers to represent Karnataka government before High Court; 26 appointees are women

Following a recent change in the Congress-led State government's leadership, the Karnataka government has notified the appointment of new law officers to represent it before the High Court.

According to government notifications, 42 Additional Government Advocates (AGAs) and 27 High Court Government Pleaders (HCGPs) have been appointed to represent the State before the Principal Bench of the Karnataka High Court.

Of the 42 AGAs, 16 are women, while 10 women feature among the 27 HCGPs.

The appointments will remain in force for a period of one year or until further orders, the notifications stated.

The appointments have been made under Rule 23 of the Karnataka Law Officers (Appointments and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1977.

Earlier, Advocate BN Jagadeesh was promoted and appointed as State Public Prosecutor-I; Vijayakumar Majage was appointed State Public Prosecutor-II, and Mohammed Ayub Ali Khan and Rashmi Jadav were named as an Additional State Public Prosecutors.

These developments come amid a recent change in the Chief Minister heading the Congress-led government of Karnataka.

As part of a power-sharing arrangement, DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka earlier this month. He succeeded Siddaramaiah, who resigned from the post on May 28.
