[COVID-19 crisis] 7 Judge Committee of Supreme Court turns down request to resume physical hearings FOR NOW

The meeting was crucial given rising instances of lawyers taking to alternate career options, dying by suicide or moving away from the legal profession as their income dried up during the pandemic.

The seven-judge committee headed by Justice NV Ramana has decided to continue keeping physical hearings in the Supreme Court at bay due to increasing cases of COVID-19.

The Committee communicated this during a meeting held yesterday with key officials of the Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA), Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Bar Council of India (BCI).
