72 Rohingyas in Bengaluru, no plan to deport them: Karnataka govt tells Supreme Court

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka has informed the Supreme Court that it has no immediate plan to deport the 72 Rohingyas living in Bengaluru..The government filed an application to this effect in response to a plea by BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay seeking directions to the Central and state governments to identify, detain and deport all illegal immigrants and infiltrators, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, within one year..The application stated,"...Bengaluru City Police have not housed Rohingyas in any camp or detention centre within its jurisdiction. However, 72 Rohingyas identified in Bengaluru City are working in various fields and Bengaluru City Police have not taken any coercive action against them as of now and there is no immediate plan of deporting them.".Further, the Karnataka government stated that the plea is not maintainable either in law or on the facts of the case. "The Petition is devoid of merits. Hence, the Petition is liable to be dismissed in limine," the application said..The petition filed through Advocates Ashwani Kumar Dubey and Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay also prayed that disproportionate assets of such employees should be confiscated."Identify and invoke NSA against government employees, travel agents and other such people, who provides PAN, AADHAAR, Passport, Ration Card, Voter Card, Driving License to Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators; and confiscate their 100% disproportionate assets," the petition said..The plea further stated that the influx of infiltrators poses a serious threat to the unity, integrity and security of country."Total 5 crore infiltrators by taking advantage of their ethnic similarities and other connections with the people of India (are) illegally residing in India unlawfully," the petition said..PIL in Supreme Court seeks directions to "detect, detain, deport Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators from West Bengal within 1 year"
