Mother of Kerala-based journalist, Siddique Kappan who has been detained by Uttar Pradesh Police has sought permission to see her son through video conference. .Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal told the Supreme Court on Friday that an application to this effect has been filed before the top court. ."Mother of Kappan is unconscious and is wanting to see her son. It was also claimed by KUWJ that Kappan was denied sleep and medicines though he is a diabetic and on medication. Kappan was beaten up, dragged by the jail authorities and also subject to "mental torture," the affidavit submitted by KUWJ added..However, UP police rebutted the claim of custodial torture stating that after his arrest on October 5, Kappan was taken for medical examination on October 6 where "no fresh injury was found" by the doctor.
