Allahabad HC and couple

The Allahabad High Court recently granted interim protection to a couple in a live-relationship observing that no one should interfere with their "peaceful living" (Priya and Anr v. State of UP).

A Division bench comprising Justices Pankaj Naqvi and Jayant Banerji was hearing a plea moved by a live-in couple seeking directions from the Court to restrain their relatives from interfering with their lives.

"Till the next date of listing, no one shall interfere in the peaceful living of the petitioners," the Court directed.

On the behalf of the petitioners, it was submitted that even though they are not formally married, yet they are living together as a couple peacefully on their own free will as both of them are of the age of majority on the basis of their High School certificates.

The Court while passing interim directions directed the respondents to file their responses within a month.

The matter will be heard next in the final week of August 2021.
