"Who is preventing you from reporting?" Allahabad High Court in plea for live reporting of court proceedings

The Allahabad High Court was today informed by its counsel that the administrative side has already started working on all aspects of live streaming and live reporting of court proceedings (Areeb Uddin Ahmed and Ors v. High Court of Allahabad)..The Court also remarked that no one is preventing the media from reporting such proceedings."Who is preventing you?", the Division Bench of Justices Pankaj Naqvi and Jayant Banerji asked..The court today stated:"As per the submission of Sri Ashish Mishra, appearing for the High Court, guidelines for Live Streaming have been received by the Chief Justice of the High Court from the Chairman of the E-Committee of the Supreme Court and suggestions have been invited. In the circumstances, adjournment is sough by Sri Mishra. Matter is adjourned. List after 6 weeks.” .Counsel representing the Allahabad High Court also informed the Bench that he has received the guidelines for live streaming of court proceedings from the Chairman of E-Committee of the Supreme Court of India, Justice DY Chandrachud. He said,"I have received all the instructions in this matter. About 4-5 days back, we have received the guidelines for Live Streaming from the Chairman of E-Committee of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, inviting suggestions from the Hon’ble Chief Justice to consider the adaptability of the guidelines. It will take some time.".It was also submitted that for the Court was in the process of switching from Jitsi Meet to some other video conferencing platform, which will address all concerns raised by the petitioners.The Court said in response,"They're now working on the implementation aspect, let them come with an outcome.".[Plea for live reporting] Allahabad High Court seeks 'complete' details from its Registry on steps taken to make proceedings accessible to public.Counsel for petitioners, Advocate Shashwat Anand, submitted that the administration's submission was on the live streaming aspect, but the petitioners' primary concern was live reporting of court hearings.In this regard, the Court remarked,"No one is disputing your right.".The petition was filed by journalists Areeb Uddin Ahmed (Bar & Bench) and Sparsh Upadhyay (Live Law) along with some law students. .The plea invoked the fundamental right of the press, which is part of the right to freedom of speech, in order to gain access to virtual or physical hearings and report the same as they occur..The matter will be heard next after six weeks.
