Allegations by highly educated spouse damaging reputation, career of partner amounts to mental cruelty entitling grant of divorce: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court allowed the plea for divorce by the husband who had alleged that his wife had written letters to his superiors in army which led to an inquiry against him and sullied his reputation.

Allegations by a highly educated spouse against the other leading to an irreparable damage to his career and reputation would fall within the realm of mental cruelty for grant of divorce, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday allowing the prayer for divorce by an army officer (Joydeep Majumdar vs Bharti Jaiswal Majumdar).
