Amruta Fadnavis extortion case: Aniksha Jaisinghani files for bail after Mumbai Court remands her to judicial custody

A Mumbai Court on Friday remanded designer Aniksha Jaisinghani to judicial custody for 2 weeks in connection with the first information report (FIR) registered against her by Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, for allegedly offering a bribe of ₹1 crore for intervention in a criminal case..After the additional sessions judge DD Almale passed the order, Jaisinghani applied for bail. The judge directed the Mumbai Police to file reply to the bail application and posted the matter for hearing on Monday, March 27. .Jaisinghani was arrested on March 17 after an FIR was registered for offences under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and Section 385 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 8 (induce public servant using corrupt means) and 12 (abetment) of Prevention of Corruption Act.According to the FIR dated February 20, Fadnavis claimed that Jaisinghani, a designer, had been in touch with her for over 16 months since 2021. Fadnavis claimed that Jaisinghani later offered ₹1 crore to protect her father in several criminal cases. Fadnavis also alleged that Jaisinghani sent video clips, voice notes, and messages and indirectly threatening and conspiring against Fadnavis..Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Misar argued that Jaisinghani was required to be confronted with a witness who had allegedly been invited to take a video and they wanted to examine the device used. Misar requested for 3 days police custody in order to confront the witness with Jaisinghani. .Jaisinghani's lawyer advocate Manan Sanghai opposed the remand pointing out that police custody was an exception which could not be granted for recovery of evidence.”She may be wife of someone important, but she is not a public servant,“ the lawyer contended.Sanghai said that investigation can also be done in judicial custody.“Investigation can be done in judicial custody. It can be done after bail also. The court can put me to terms. Investigation will take time. I have co-operated to the best possible. They have not added any other section.
