[Broadcast of copyrighted music] "Appears somewhat unworkable:" Madras High Court issues notice in challenge to Rule 29(4) of Copyright Rules

As an interim relief, the Court has extended time given under the second proviso to Rule 29 to "within fifteen days" after broadcast, but subject to obtaining prior permission from the copyright owner before broadcast.

The Madras High Court on Monday issued notice on a petition moved by a radio broadcaster challenging the validity of Rule 29 (4) of the Copyright Rules, 2013 (Next Radio Ltd and 2 ors v. Union of India).
