The Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has issued a strong statement after a fabricated casteist statement was falsely attributed to him on social media and warned that those responsible will face legal consequences.

CJI Surya Kant said he will "bring the full might of the law" against those behind the viral social media post.

The post, shared on X by the account @UnreservedMERIT, carried a quote in Hindi reading: "अगर एक समाज ख़ुद को IAS, IPS, CJI, President, PM बनकर भी ख़ुद को शोषित ही रखना चाहता है, तो इसमें गलती ब्राह्मणों की नहीं बल्कि उसकी अपनी मानसिकता की है।" It was accompanied by a photograph of the Chief Justice and the caption "Chief Justice of India."

CJI Surya Kant categorically denied making any such statement.

"These assertions, which have been fraudulently attributed to me, are entirely baseless and do not reflect my words, views, or character," he said, adding that he "categorically condemned the dissemination of such fabrications."

He urged the public to verify sources before lending credence to such claims and warned of legal consequences for the perpetrators.

"I am prepared to bring the full might of the law to bear on the perpetrators and ensure that they face the repercussions of their mendacity," the Chief Justice added.
