The Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant has issued a strong statement after a fabricated casteist statement was falsely attributed to him on social media.

He warned that those responsible will face legal consequences. he will "bring the full might of the law" against those behind the viral social media post.

The post, shared on X by the account @UnreservedMERIT, carried a quote in Hindi reading: "अगर एक समाज ख़ुद को IAS, IPS, CJI, President, PM बनकर भी ख़ुद को शोषित ही रखना चाहता है, तो इसमें गलती ब्राह्मणों की नहीं बल्कि उसकी अपनी मानसिकता की है।"

It was accompanied by a photograph of the CJI with the caption "Chief Justice of India."

CJI Surya Kant categorically denied making any such statement.

"These assertions, which have been fraudulently attributed to me, are entirely baseless and do not reflect my words, views, or character," he said.

"I am prepared to bring the full might of the law to bear on the perpetrators and ensure that they face the repercussions of their mendacity," the Chief Justice said.
