The Supreme Court Collegium has put all speculations to rest by publishing the names of nine persons it recommended on Tuesday for appointment as judges of the top court.
The names persons are: Justices AS Oka, Vikram Nath, JK Maheshwari, Hima Kohli, BV Nagarathna, CT Ravikumar, MM Sundresh, Bela Trivedi, and Senior Advocate PS Narasimha.
Three of the persons recommended, Justices Hima Kohli, BV Nagarathna and Bela Trivedi are from women judges while one person, PS Narasimha is a Senior Advocate practicing at the Supreme Court.
If Narasimha's recommendation is cleared by the Central government, he will be the ninth lawyer ever to be appointed directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court.
The names of the nine persons were first published by various media outlets today morning before the minutes of the Collegium meeting were signed by the Collegium judges.
Later, Chief Justice of India (CJ) NV Ramana had expressed his displeasure at what he termed as "speculative" reports published by the media since the process of making recommendations had not reached its conclusion.
He had, therefore, urged media to exercise restraint while publishing news which could impact careers of High Court judges and Senior Advocates.
