The Madras High Court on Monday clarified that its earlier orders extending the life of interim orders passed by courts in Tamil Nadu in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, will not continue beyond July 15, 2021. .These orders were passed as part of a suo motu case registered by the Court. When these proceedings were last taken up by the Bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy on June 29, the Court had extended the life of interim orders until July 15..To this end, the Court had extended the operation of a May 17 order until July 15. .When the matter was taken up today, however, the Court directed that the extension of interim orders will not continue beyond July 15 since the situation has improved. .The suo motu proceedings were, however, kept pending so that appropriate measures may be taken to protect litigants through the same proceedings in the event of the COVID-19 situation deteriorating in the future or in the event there is another pandemic surge in the future.
