Demonetisation not bad in law merely because some citizens suffered through hardships: Supreme Court

The majority opinion relied on a 1981 Supreme Court judgment which held that individual interests must yield to the larger interests of the country, as every noble cause claims its martyr.

A Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court today held that merely because some citizens suffered hardships due to demonetisation, it was not reason enough to hold the exercise illegal [Vivek Narayan Sharma v. Union of India].
