"Do not diminish dignity of Senior Advocates of High Court:" Punjab Additional Advocate General Mukesh Berry resigns

Additional Advocate General of Punjab, Mukesh Berry has tendered his resignation from the post..His resignation comes close on the heels of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi accepting the resignation tendered by Advocate General APS Deol."Without commenting upon the decision of Punjab Government in accepting the resignation of APS Deol, Advocate General Punjab a senior lawyer of the High Court. I hereby submit my resignation from the post of Additional Advocate General, Punjab which would be deemed to be accepted from the date of its submission i.e. today," Berry's resignation letter said.In the brief but strongly worded letter, Berry also implored the Congress government in Punjab not to ridicule and diminish the status and dignity of Senior Advocates of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.."Having remained elected representative of the Advocates as member of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana for 27 years and also Chairman of the same and in continuous service as law officer in the office of Advocate General Punjab for 28 years, I would request the Government not to ridicule and diminish the status and dignity of the Senior Advocates of this High Court," the letter stated..APS Deol had tendered his resignation after Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu had objected to his appointment.Siddhu had alleged that Deol was a defence lawyer for former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and Paramraj Singh Umaranangal, both accused in the Behbal Kalan police firing caseYesterday, Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi accepted Deol's resignation from the office of Advocate General (AG) of the State.
