Young women lawyers should not let anyone dictate what they can or cannot do, advised Justice Sunita Agarwal on Thursday in an event organised by the Allahabad High Court to bid her farewell in view of her elevation as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. .She encouraged young women, students, and lawyers to remain confident, and persistent, and to not allow external influences discourage them."Do not let anyone tell you what you can or cannot achieve, even the sky is not the limit ... To the young members of the bar, I would like to say, always remember that this institution is above all of us. We exist because this institution exists and it is not the other way round. This institution is so large-hearted that it embraces everyone who enters. No individual is and will ever be greater than the institution. Pay your respect and sense of gratitude to this august institution every day," she said..Justice Agarwal urged young lawyers to dedicate time and energy to their work and to remain disciplined, honest, and positive."Respect your colleagues and staff and help each other when in need...There will be plenty of opportunities coming your way and if you choose carefully, you will achieve great success. The world is your oyster," she further remarked..Justice Agarwal graduated from Awadh University in 1989 and enrolled as an advocate on December 16, 1990. She was elevated as an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court on November 21, 2011. She took oath as a permanent judge of the High Court on August 6, 2013.Earlier this month, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended that she be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. The Central government cleared this proposal earlier this week. As a result, Justice Agarwal is presently the only woman appointed as a High Court Chief Justice in the country. .The aspect was also noted by Allahabad High Chief Justice Printinker Diwaker in the farewell event organised yesterday. He added that Justice Agarwal's departure signified a loss for the Allahabad High Court, while the Gujarat High Court now stood to gain from her presence.
