Gargi College incident: Advocate ML Sharma moves Supreme Court, seeks Court-monitored CBI probe

Shruti Mahajan

Serial PIL filer Advocate ML Sharma has moved the Supreme Court seeking a court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the recent mass molestation and sexual harassment incident at Delhi's Gargi College.

On February 6, a mob of hundreds of men reportedly gatecrashed the college fest organized by Delhi's Gargi College. Scenes turned ugly as the mob allegedly molested and sexually harassed the students. The shocking incident came to light a couple of days later, when the students took to social media to recount the horrific incident.

Seeking a probe into this incident, ML Sharma has moved the Supreme Court claiming the incident to be a conspiracy on part of political parties to gain "political mileage" just ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls that took place on Febrtuary 8.

Sharma also pins the blame on the Delhi administration for failing to take action in the matter.

"That State government took no action. It’s a clear criminal conspiracy hatched by the political party to deployed mass accused persons to provoke the Delhi public for effecting voting in their favour."

Sharma also avers that based on accounts of students available on social media and media interviews, it appears that the college administration, as well as the police personnel deployed at the venue, failed to take any action.

In light of the same, Sharma has prayed for a CBI inquiry to look into the incident. He has also prayed that this probe be monitored by the Supreme Court.
