The Bombay High Court on Wednesday refused to hear the plea moved by Deepak Kochhar, husband of former Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank Chanda Kochhar, seeking quashing of the proceedings initiated against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged ICICI Bank-Videocon money laundering case..Advocate Dadhichi Mhaispurkar informed Justice Sandeep K Shinde that the Special Court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) which would be conducting the trial has listed the matter for framing of charges on October 1, 2021. He, therefore, prayed for an urgent hearing in the High Court before the next date of hearing before Special Court..However Justice Shinde found no urgency to hear the petition. "What is so urgent about this matter? Why should I give priority to this matter? Let the trial court frame charges. Should I hear matters only because trial court will proceed? Every matter is like that. I am not inclined.." he said. .The matter will now be listed in due course.Kochhar has challenged an order of the Special Judge hearing the case, in which process was issued based on a prosecution complaint, He has also assailed all consequential proceedings arising from the same.He claimed that in 2020, the statutory adjudicating authority under PMLA had clearly stated that the said property was not proceeds of crime. However, ED had suppressed the fact before the Special Court and got an order in their favour. In light of this, Kochhar sought quashing of the PMLA court order.
