Justice AY Kogje sworn in as Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice

Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje was today sworn in as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Governor Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel administered the oath of office to Justice Kogje.

The Central government had cleared Justice Kogje's appointment on September 5 after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended him for elevation on August 31.

Over 20 judges of the Gujarat High Court travelled to MP to attend the oath-taking ceremony.

The High Court currently has a strength of 33 judges. A large number of lawyers from Gujarat also attended the ceremony.

Justice Kogje was appointed as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court in April 2016. He was subsequently appointed as a permanent judge of the High Court in March 2018.

He pursued his B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1990 and earned his law degree from the Faculty of Law at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1993.

He joined the Bar in 1993. Throughout his career as counsel, he held several significant roles, including Additional Public Prosecutor from 2002 to 2007, and Standing Counsel for the Central Excise and Customs Department. He also was the Special Public Prosecutor at the High Court for the cases of the 2002 Godhra riots.
