Bar & Bench

COMEDK Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) is a State-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka.

The plea by Advocate Abdulla Mannan Khan prays for the exam to be conducted after the NEET JEE Examination and that it be withheld till this "Corona Crisis is averted", considering all the lockdowns effectuated in individual states.

Advocate Abdulla Manan Khan will be appearing as party in person in the matter.

Live updates from the hearing today will be featured on this page.

Hearing begins.

Advocate Khan: I am appearing as party in person for 2 lakh students.

Bench: As party in person for 2 lakh students?

Bench: Why do Advocates become parties? Ask the students to become petitioners and you become an Advocate.

Bench: Candidates will suffer if exams are not conducted.

Khan: Others High Courts have stayed the exams. States like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu etc. are in lockdown.

Bench: With all due respect, other High Courts are not functioning like we are.

Counsel for COMEDK: Other exams are being conducted. Only emails of 19 students have been produced. This looks like petitioner got in touch with these students. This is a "publicity abuse of process."

Khan: There is also a flood condition in Bihar, Kerala etc amid COVID. The situation here is very much different from KCET petition.

Further states that COMEDK is urging students to download the Aarogya Setu app.

COMEDK counsel: Tata consultancy is conducting the exam and they always follow the guidelines.

Test is only conducted for 119 professional private colleges, with 20,000 seats.

Bench begins dictating order.

Khan adds that railways are also not functioning currently.

Order: At the outset we find that there is already a delay in conducting exams owing to COVID-19. With the passage of time, the Karnataka Government went on to conduct 10th class exam and the KCET 2020.

Court: COMEDK Examination is being conducted all over India, in 342 centres and 30 states. It is for 20,000 seats which is in 190 colleges plus 7 State Universities.

BREAKING: Court declines to interfere in conduct of COMEDK exam.

Court: COMEDK exam to be conducted on August 19. Directs 2nd respondent, which is conducting the exam, to take all precautions to be followed for the safe conduct of the COMEDK exam. If necessary, additional precautions may also be taken apart from what has been placed on record.
