Late result by Mumbai University: Law students move Bombay High Court seeking admission to LLM course, State Bar Council enrolment

Eight law students from Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai have approached the Bombay High Court seeking admission to the recently launched Masters of Law course in the college after the delay caused by the University of Mumbai or GLC itself in declaring their results..In the petition filed through Advocate Ajinkya Udane, the petitioners claimed that their examinations came to an end on June 9, 2022.Thereafter the university failed to declare their results within the statutory period of 45 days, and instead released the results on August 13, 2022..The results which were declared on August 13 did not include the names of the petitioners, the plea further alleged. Additionally, there was no official communication since then till date about the date of release of the results of the eight petitioners or the reason for the results not being released..The petition also pointed out that 64 more students enrolled with the university through various other law colleges were facing similar issue.After receiving no response telephonically and through WhatsApp, two of the students filed a representation to the Director of Examination and Evaluation of the university in person, to which they again received no response..The grievance arose when the application by petitioners to several Public Service Undertakings remained incomplete as their deadline for submitting documents was August 31, and the petitioners were unable to submit their results..They also claimed to have missed out on several opportunities for higher studies in the likes of Masters in Law at foreign universities, National Law Universities, etc.“Petitioners have therefore been prevented to compete in the selection process for their employment opportunity due to sheer laid back attitude of the Respondents and that they are solely to be blamed for the petitioners loss of a year” the plea underscored..In light of these circumstances, the petitioners are seeking these reliefs:To declare their missing results of the final year LLB examinations within a week;To direct the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa to ensure the petitioners are enrolled at the earliest so that they don’t miss the opportunity for appearing in the All India Bar Examination 2022.To direct the respondent authorities to issue notification or instructions to GLC to admit the petitioners in the newly launched LLM program.The plea will be heard by Bench of Justices SV Gangapurwala and RN Ladhha on Monday.
