The Patiala House Court in Delhi on Wednesday remanded law students Prabal Pratap Singh and Chander Bhan to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the case against them for disrupting Supreme Court proceedings and abusing judges.
The two were produced before the Patiala House court on Wednesday after the expiry of their two-day police custody.
The Court then directed that they be remanded to judicial custody, PTI reported.
Prabal Pratap Singh, a third-year law student, and Chander Bhan, a second-year student, both from Lucknow University, were arrested by Delhi Police earlier this week over the July 10 incident, which took place before a Bench of Justices KV Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe.
On that day, Singh, appearing before the Court as a petitioner-in-person, disrupted the court proceedings by using abusive language and flinging his case files inside the courtroom. He also abused the Chief Justice of India before being escorted out by security personnel.
The Court, in its order that day, chose not to take any action against him.
However, a case was registered at Tilak Marg police station on a statement given by Supreme Court security staff.
Following the incident, the accused were medically examined at IHBAS and declared mentally sound, according to reports. Several pamphlets containing objectionable language were also recovered from their possession.
With the police remand now over, the two students will remain in judicial custody until their next appearance before the court on July 29.
