The Madras High Court on Tuesday passed an interim injunction restraining expelled All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader O Panneerselvam (OPS) from claiming to be the co-ordiantor or a primary member of the party, and from using the party’s official letterhead, its symbol and flag..Justice N Sathish Kumar granted the interim injunction till November 30 on a civil suit filed by the current General Secretary of the party and OPS’ political rival, Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS)..EPS had moved the Court in September this year seeking to restrain OPS from continuing to claim that he was the coordinator and primary member of the AIADMK.Appearing for EPS, Senior Advocate Vijay Narayan, told the Court that such claims of being a member of the party by OPS was creating confusion among members of the public..Earlier, the Court had granted OPS time till October 6 to file a counter affidavit. However, it decided to grant such injunction when OPS failed to file the counter affidavit. On Tuesday, Advocate P Rajalakshmi, who appeared for OPS, urged the Court to grant some more time. She also told the Court that OPS had filed an appeal before the Supreme Court challenging a previous order of the High Court refusing to interfere with his expulsion from the party. She said that the appeal had been numbered and was expected to be taken up for hearing anytime..However, Justice Kumar saw it fit to grant the interim injunction since OPS had failed to obtain favourable orders so far in the several rounds of litigation initiated over the leadership of the AIADMK. The Court further said that if the apex court ended up staying the order, the present order of injunction will anyway lose effect.
