Murder metaphor by Madras High Court inappropriate; judges should be cautious when making off-the-cuff remarks in open court: Supreme Court

Language, both on the Bench and in judgments, must comport with judicial propriety, the Supreme Court said.

The oral remarks made by Madras High Court against the Election Commission of India on April 26 attributing the COVID-19 situation in the country to the poll body, were inappropriate and harsh, the Supreme Court said on Thursday (The Chief Election Commissioner of India v. MR Vijayabhaskar).
