An Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court on Wednesday denied bail to Suhail Sajeev and three others accused in the Mini Cooper car crash case which claimed three lives.

Suhail Sajeev, along with co-accused Ninav, Joyal S Anto and Ameen Shah, had recently approached the sessions court for relief after their bail applications were rejected on October 17 by a trial court in Angamaly.

The sessions court today dismissed their plea.

Detailed order copy awaited.

The case stems from a collision that took place on October 11, when a Mini Cooper, allegedly driven by Sajeev, hit a scooter carrying three youngsters on the Athani-Airport road in Nedumbassery, killing all three.

The Nedumbassery Airport Police Station registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The police subsequently arrested Sajeev and three passengers who were in the car with him at the time of the collision.

All four accused were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

They subsequently approached a magistrate court in Angamaly seeking bail. However it refused to grant bail, observing that the allegations against the accused were serious and required further investigation. The accused then moved the sessions court seeking bail.

According to reports, the prosecution opposed the bail applications arguing that the investigation was at a crucial stage.

It informed the court that the results of tests that would determine whether Sajeev had consumed alcohol were awaited and that the police were yet to examine the data from the car's Event Data Recorder.

The prosecution also relied on an audio message allegedly sent by one of the accused (Joyal) to another friend after the accident, where he allegedly stated that Sajeev was driving at high speed under the influence of alcohol when the car hit the scooter.
