NEET-UG 2021: NTA moves Supreme Court against Bombay High Court order halting declaration of results

The National Testing Agency NTA) has moved Supreme Court against a Bombay High Court order halting the declaration of results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for under graduate courses..The High Court had suspended declaration of results in order to conduct re-examination for two aggrieved candidates..Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned NTA's appeal before Chief Justice of India NV Ramana led Bench today. Even though the Cench was inclined to refer it to the bench which is hearing NEET cases, upon persuasion by Mehta, the Bench stated that it will take a call after perusing the case file..The two students before the High Court had highlighted that their test booklets and OMR sheets got mixed up during the NEET exam held on September 12. The submitted that when invigilators started distributing the test booklets, it fell down. As a result the test booklets and the OMR sheets which the two candidates received, got mixed up.The High Court had, therefore, directed the NTA to re-examine the two candidates by conducting a separate NEET examination before declaration of results.NTA was further directed to declare the result of re-examination of petitioners along with the result of NEET examination held on September 12..In its appeal before the Supreme Court, NTA has contended that effect of the High Court order is that NTA who has conducted the NEET (UG) 2021 examination for more than 16 lakh candidates is not able to declare results even though the same is ready.."The delay in declaration of Result of NEET (UG) 2021 will affect and further delay the subsequent process of admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses i.e. MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS Course" the appeal said. .NTA submitted that the High Court failed to appreciate that the facts involved in the present case are not beyond suspicion due to various inconsistencies and "would set wrong precedent in future for candidates to draw undue advantage from such similar incidents."
