Pakistan Supreme Court takes cognizance of attack on Hindu temple

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken suo motu cognizance of the attack on a Hindu temple in village Bhong of Rahim Yar Khan in Pakistan..A press release issued in this regard said that Member of National Assembly and Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Hindu Council, Dr. Ramesh Kumar called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed at the Supreme Court on August 5 and highlighted the incident. "The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan showed grave concern over the tragic incident," the press statement said. .The Court, therefore, took cognizance of the matter and fixed it for hearing on August 6 while also asking Chief Secretary Punjab and IGP Punjab to appear along with a report about the incident. .When the matter was heard on August 6, the Court pulled up the police officers in charge for failing to prevent the attack."What were the administration and the police doing when the temple was attacked?" Chief Justice Ahmed asked Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani, according to PTI..Additional Attorney General Sohail Mahmood intervened and said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has strongly condemned the incident and ordered strict action against the culprits. The Court, however, maintained that it will continue to hear the case on legal aspects and adjourned the mater for August 13. .According to PTI, the attack on the temple was triggered after a nine-year-old Hindu boy, who was arrested for allegedly urinating in a local seminary, was granted bail by a court.
