[Breaking] Bombay High Court refuses to intervene in transfer of Partho Dasgupta from JJ Hospital to Taloja prison

The Bombay High Court refused to intervene today in the transfer of former Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) CEO Partho Dasgupta from JJ Hospital, Mumbai to the Taloja Central Prison after his discharge from the hospital..Justice PD Naik, who heard the application at 7 pm today, refused to intervene after Chief Public Prosecutor Deepak Thakare assured the Court that the Taloja medical officers would continue treating Dasgupta in accordance with the JJ Hospital discharge note..The Court was moved after the Mumbai Sessions Court rejected Dasgupta's bail plea in a case related to the Television Rating Points Scam (TRP Scam). An application was filed seeking Dasgupta's release on bail..Pending the disposal of the application, Dasgupta sought for interim bail for two weeks or to be transferred to PD Hinduja Hospital for his treatment..Advocate Arjun Singh Thakur, appearing for Dasgupta, argued that the urgency for moving the application arose because Dasgupta was being transferred to prison despite being unfit. .He submitted a video to the Court to show that Dasgupta was being taken away in a stretcher and if he had been fit, he would not need a stretcher. .Thakur pressed for Dasgupta's transfer to the private hospital on account of his ill-health. He also apprehended the prayers would become infructuous if Dasgupta is taken back to Taloja prison..Opposing the prayer, Thakare apprised the Court that Dasgupta was brought to JJ Hospital from Taloja jail and since he was discharged from the hospital, he was being shifted back to Taloja. .He added that as a matter of procedure, the prison medical officer would examine Dasgupta and if deemed necessary would be shifted back to JJ Hospital..Upon this submission of Thakare, Justice Naik concluded that interference was not necessary.
