The Gujarat High Court has intimated that a Committee of three Judges has been constituted to look into requests for the commencement of the physical functioning of District Courts in the state keeping in mind the present situation of COVID-19.

The said Committee is likely to give its report in a couple of days and an appropriate decision would be taken within the week after considering its report, the High Court has informed.

Additionally, the Principal District Judges have been directed to treat matters filed under Section 451 of the Code of Criminal Procedure as urgent cases. Section 451, CrPC deals with custody or disposal of property involved in pending cases.

As far as Land Acquisition matters and Motor Accident Compensation matters are concerned, the same would be taken up after the report of the Committee is received, the Court has added.

The Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court issued the notice after taking due note of the discussions held with the representatives of the Bar Council of Gujarat.

This order has been passed a week after the Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association had written to the Chief Justice urging for the physical re-opening of the Court while following all required safety measures.
