Police officer drinking Coca-Cola during court hearing asked by Gujarat High Court to distribute 100 Coke cans to Bar

A Gujarat cop who was spotted drinking Coca Cola during court hearing, drew of the ire of the Gujarat High Court on Tuesday with the Bench headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Aravind Kumar asking the police man to distribute 100 cans of the aerated drink to the Bar..The Bench which also consisted of Justice Ashutosh J Shastri had sought appearance of the police officer in question as a respondent.When the hearing started, he was seen sipping the soft drink. ."He is drinking Coca-Cola during video conferencing.Who is this police officer?" CJ demanded.Additional Government Pleader (AGP) DM Devnani apologised on behalf of the cop."I convey my sincere apologies. I will just ask him to switch off his video," Devnani said.The CJ, however, refused to let it go."The can shows it is Coca-Cola, we don't know the contents of it. Is he an IPS officer? Is this the way an officer acts; if he would have been in physical court, would he have come with a 'Coca-Cola' can," the CJ asked..Chief Justice Kumar then narrated an incident about an advocate who was found eating a samosa during virtual court hearing."One advocate once appeared before us was eating samosa. We said we don't have any objection to him eating samosa but the only issue was that he cannot eat samosa in front of us and everyone since others are also tempted. Either he should give it to everybody or he shouldn't eat," the CJ said in lighter vein..The CJ asked AGP Devnani to direct the concerned police officer appearing before the Court drinking 'Coca-Cola' to distribute 100 cans of the same to everybody in the Bar Association."He should distribute 100 Cans of 'Coca-Cola' to everybody in the Bar Association, otherwise we will ask the Chief Secretary to initiate disciplinary proceedings against him. We will not leave him until he complies with this. It should reach by today evening," the CJ sounded serious."Should (it) be something less harmful than Coca-Cola, maybe lime juice?" Senior Advocate Bhaskar Tanna weighed in. "Amul Juice. Ask him to arrange Amul Juice," the CJ said.The Court and the advocates present then shared a laugh..In a lighter vein, the Court asked AGP Devnani to confirm virtually to the Court after he receives the set of cans from the concerned police officer.The Court then resumed hearing other matters.
