Entertaining a plea by a live-in couple seeking protection from their relatives could disturb the social fabric of the society, the Punjab & Haryana High Court recently observed.

The Bench of Justice Anil Kshetarpal noted that one of the petitioners is barely 18 years old while the other is 21.

"They claim to be residing together in a live-in relationship and claim protection of life and liberty from relatives of petitioner no. 1," the Court observed.

In the considered view of this Bench, if such protection is granted, the entire social fabric of the society would get disturbed, the Court said rejecting the prayer for protection.
