A civil court in Pune has issued a summons to actor Arshad Warsi, director Subhash Kapoor, and producer Arun Bhatia in response to a plea filed by a city advocate to restrain the release of the upcoming film Jolly LLB 3 [Wajed Rahim Khan v Subhash Kapoor and Ors].
Civil Judge (Senior Division) JG Pawar has issued the summons on a plea filed by Advocate Wajed Rahim Khan. The matter is scheduled for hearing on October 28.
The plaint has been filed under the provisions of Specific Relief Act, praying for an injunction against the release of the film.
The plea alleges that the film insults the legal profession by depicting an advocate wearing an advocate’s band tie in its recently released promotional teaser.
The teaser was uploaded on YouTube on August 12, and the film is scheduled to release on September 19.
According to the plea, the film teaser is being shown through electronic mediums and has tarnished the image of lawyers as well as Judiciary.
Khan argues that the film misuses the attire of judges and lawyers and depicts it improperly. It is also stated that the previous two parts of the film franchise faced similar action.
His plaint further argues that the recent depiction in the teaser attempts to insult and tarnish the dignity of lawyers and that such portrayal could disturb peace in society.
He further claims that this act is being done by the filmmakers and artists for financial gain.
The plea asserts that the film is controversial and its title is also controversial. The plaintiff has requested the court to stop its release across Maharashtra and to issue appropriate orders regarding its distribution through newspapers and the internet.
