Rahul Easwar moves Kerala HC for action against alleged derogatory remarks on Sabarimala deities

Right-wing activist and public commentator Rahul K Easwar has moved the Kerala High Court over alleged derogatory remarks made by Dalit activist Sunny M Kapikad against Sabarimala deities Lord Ayyappa and Malikappurathamma.

Easwar has sought directions to the State authorities to remove, block and disable public access to an allegedly objectionable video posted on social media in which Kapikad is alleged to have made the remarks.

The matter came up for hearing before Justice G Girish who said that it will be listed on September 10 after the plea is amended.

“I allowed your application for correction of your prayer. After that, I will consider the correction to be carried out by Registry,” Justice Girish orally observed.

The Court also noted that steps for issuance of notice had not yet been taken.

The Counsel appearing for Easwar requested that the matter be posted on Thursday for consideration of the plea as well as the interim relief sought by the petitioner.

The Court accordingly posted the matter to September 10.

On August 31, the Court had directed the Public Prosecutor to obtain instructions from the State authorities and the Cyber Crime Police Station, while issuing notice to Meta Platforms and Kapikad.

The Court had then permitted notice to Meta through email or its standing counsel and notice to Kapikad through special messenger.

The petition was filed through advocates PT Sheejish and Ayonna George.
