"Shopping for liberty": Punjab & Haryana High Court flags litigants making hollow promises for bail
The Court took judicial notice of a trend wherein accused persons use the prospect of an amicable settlement to get relief such as anticipatory bail, only to later go back on their commitments once liberty is secured.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently expressed dismay over a trend where litigants give hollow undertakings to the Court to secure discretionary relief such as anticipatory bail, only to later go back on their promises once they have secured their liberty [Surinder Pal Singh v. State of Punjab & Anr].
