Should enrolments be conducted via video conferencing amid COVID-19 Lockdown? Kerala HC seeks Kerala Bar Council's response

Meera Emmanuel

The Kerala High Court on Monday sought the response of the Bar Council of Kerala over whether Bar Council enrolments should be conducted via video conferencing in the backdrop of the continuing COVID-19 lockdown.

In this regard, a plea had come up before the Bench of Justice Anu Sivaraman this morning raising grievance over the fact that Bar Council enrolment is being indefinitely prolonged as the COVID-19 Lockdown continues (Hari Krishnan v. Bar Council of Kerala).

The judge, in turn, orally queried what could be done in the present situation. She asked, "You suggest an enrolment by video conferencing?"

Appearing for the petitioner, Advocate S Sujin answered that this is possible.

"It is possible. I would suggest it", he added.

The Bar Council of Kerala sought time to respond on the proposal. The Court, therefore, posted the matter to be taken up next week for hearing the Bar Council's response.
