The farewell function slated to be organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on April 23 for outgoing Chief Justice of India SA Bobde will be held via video conference in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. .President of the SCBA, Senior Advocate Vikas Singh informed Bar & Bench that the event will be a virtual one and will commence at 5 pm on April 23. .Ever since COVID-19 pandemic broke out and the Supreme Court adopted virtual mode hearing cases, only Justice Indu Malhotra has received a physical farewell. .Singh also told Bar & Bench that "even though the Executive Committee had a "very short time" with CJI Bobde, the association was hopeful that two assurances by the outgoing CJI, one that SCBA lawyers have to be considered for elevation to the High courts on a regular basis and affixing SCBA welfare stamp on every vakalatnama being filed in the Supreme Court, would be implemented in the near future.".CJI Bobde has been delivering number of judgments during the last week of his tenure including judgments on appointment of ad hoc judges and laying down a definite timeline for the Central government to act under the Memorandum of Procedure. .Justice NV Ramana will succeed Justice Bobde on April 24, 2021.
