Supreme Court Collegium recommends transfer of four Allahabad High Court judges

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of four Allahabad High Court judges..The following are the four judges who have been recommended for a transfer to different High Courts:Justice Rajendra Kumar-IV to Madhya Pradesh High Court;Justice Prakash Padia to Jharkhand High Court;Justice SP Kesarwani to Calcutta High Court; andJustice Vivek Kumar Singh to Madras High Court..The Collegium has proposed these transfers for the ‘better administration of justice’. Four Collegium statements to this effect were made public on August 10. .Three of these recommendations were reiterated on August 10, in identically-worded resolutions. In these statements, the Collegium has detailed its procedure in making these recommendations, which included getting inputs from consultee judges of the Supreme Court who hail from the Allahabad High Court, as well as the concurrence and no-objection of the Chief Justices of the High Courts concerned..These resolutions further disclose that although Justice Rajendra consented to the transfer, he sought a six month stay on the same. Justice Padia is stated to have requested a reconsideration of his proposed transfer. In the alternative, he requested that he be transferred to the High Court in Madhya Pradesh, Patna or Uttarakhand.Justice Kesarwani is said to have requested a reconsideration of the proposal for his transfer to the Calcutta High Court.However, these requests were rejected by the Collegium.The recommendation to transfer Justice Vivek Kumar, meanwhile, was finalised earlier on August 3..[Read Resolutions]
