Supreme Court hears suo motu case on COVID-19 situation in India [LIVE UPDATES]

The Supreme Court is hearing a case concerning the COVID-19 situation in the country. Yesterday CJI SA Bobde had sought a response on why the top Court should not deal with the matter uniformly, in the wake of several High Courts taking up COVID-19 related issues suo motu in their respective States.

The top Court decided to take up the matter suo motu citing concerns that directions passed by various High Courts in such matters may create confusion and diversion of resources. Senior Advocate Harish Salve was also appointed by the Bench to assist the Supreme Court in the matter. Shortly after the development, the Supreme Court Bar Association moved an application opposing the possible withdrawal of all such High Court cases to the top Court.
