Supreme Court says High Courts can proceed with hearing challenge to UAPA

The top court should not become the court of first instance, except in rare instances, the Bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna said.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday clarified that it would be open for the High Courts to proceed with the petitions challenging the amendments to the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
