Supreme Court seeks UP Govt response on policy for premature release of prisoners aged 80 plus

The Court was hearing a plea filed by an 80-year-old man who had been convicted by the Allahabad High Court in 2019 for an incident from 1985.

The Supreme Court recently sought response from the Government of Uttar Pradesh on framing of a policy to consider the case of premature release of accused who are 80 years old or above and convicted after long drawn trial [Kedar Yadav v. State of Uttar Pradesh].
