[Udaipur Murder] Local court remands accused to 14-day judicial custody

Mohammed Riyaz Akhtar and Mohammed Gaus, accused in the gruesome murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli in Udaipur, have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the Udaipur District & Sessions Court, Udaipur Times reported..The two were produced before the court amid tight security on Thursday evening, and were remanded to judicial custody till July 13..The case initially came to be registered by the State Police as a First Information Report (FIR) in the Dhanmandi district of Udaipur, Rajasthan on June 29, 2022.Subsequently, the NIA re-registered a case after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the the agency to take over the investigation."The involvement of any organisation and international links will be thoroughly investigated," the MHA had tweeted.The accused have been booked for offences under Sections 452 (house-trespass), 302 (murder), 153(A) (promoting enmity between different groups), 153 (B) (imputations prejudicial to national-integration), 295(A) (outrage religious feelings) and 34 of Indian Penal Code and for offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).Kanhaiya Lal Teli, was murdered in broad daylight on June 28, 2022 by the two accused, who inflicted multiple injuries to the victim with sharp weapons.The accused also circulated a video of the act on social media claiming responsibility for the murder with the aim of triggering panic and strike terror among the masses..Earlier, a case had been filed against Teli on June 10 by his neighbour for allegedly propagating objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad on Facebook.Shortly after that, Teli had filed a complaint on June 15 alleging that that there were threats to his life. It was stated that some people had shared his picture and address on a WhatsApp group saying that if anyone saw him on the street or if he came to his shop, he should be killed.Therefore, he apprehended that if he were to open his shop, all of them would come together and kill him..In his complaint, addressing allegations of making remarks against Prophet Muhammad, Kanhaiya stated that his son had accidentally shared the post on Facebook while playing games on his mobile phone. He clarified that he was, in fact, unaware of the post since he did not know how to use the phone.
