Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Saturday stressed on the importance of making the youth understand the Constitution better..Speaking at the Constitution Day event organised by the Supreme Court, PM Modi said,"Our Constitution is youth-centric. It is the youth who are entrusted to develop our nation. It is our duty to make the youth understand the Constitution better. The youth has to take part in more discussions and debates regarding the Constitution and they must be aware of the sacrifices of the Constituent Assembly.".Referring to the opening words of the Preamble to the Constitution, he said,"We the people is a call, a pledge, a faith. This sentiment in the Constitution is the core of the Indian system and which enriches the mother of democracy. To keep citizens happy and to behave amicably should be the role of the governing authority."He described the Constitution as being open, futuristic and known for its progressive views..The PM went on to highlight the role of women in drafting the Constitution, noting that there were 15 women members of the Constituent Assembly. Noting the contribution of Dakshayani Velayudhan, Durgabai Deshmukh, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Hansa Jivraj Mehta and others, he said,"Our youth should know them and get answers to their own questions."
